Sophie joined us on the 4th April 2007 after a long day of contractions and labour. Kristy and Sophie are both doing well.
The 4th was her due date and so she shows she’s already a high achiever, as only 3% of babies (or whatever the statistic is) are born on their due date. Good work bubs!
Kristy is now 1.5 weeks away from her due date for the expected birth. Both of us are just waiting now… Kristy is feeling good generally though the little baby likes to stretch sideways as far as possible.
We want the nappy changing to begin already!

Back in Brisbane again, safe and sound, broke, and happy to be back in the sun after a brief bit of European cold. We spent October in Montpellier with my parents and my sister and her kids who came over to visit, and popped over to Barcelona in Spain for a couple of days – magical city! Then we went up north to the border of Luxembourg and Belgium and stayed with Kylie and Thomas and their two kids for a month. Kristy looked after little Isaac and Eden while I partook of the amazing cultural experience of delivering newspapers in the cold at 5 am… at least I didn’t have to do it in the snow as Thomas will over winter! I also got into writing my third book and managed to do about half of it. On the weekends we went for some short trips, over to Germany and the Black Forest, back to Vorst to farewell my host family and finally up to Brugge in Belgium with my sister, brother-in-law and their kids. We spent the last weekend in Paris, trying to figure out how to reduce our luggage (we had 32 kgs or so each) before our flight…
At the airport we were given a little bit of a scare when checking-in – the 20kg limit was relaxed to 25kg after a bit of negotiation but we were still a few kgs over each… and they were charging 60 euros ($100) a kg for the excess! The supervisor came to our rescue eventually though, telling us the plane wasn’t full, and kindly letting us on. We weren’t so lucky going through Customs though – a bottle of Moet & Chandon champagne we had bought a friend as a wedding gift had to be thrown out – we had realised the “no liquids over 100ml” rule extended to expensive alcohol brought by friendly Australians…
Anyway, it was a great 7 month trip but we are happy to be home. Kristy is now 23 weeks pregnant and vomiting only every 4 days now. We bought a car last week, and a house yesterday (in Brighton, near Sandgate) and my job starts again in January, so this month is still fairly relaxed (or will be, from now on) which is a nice way to return.
We are almost certainly staying here in Brisbane for the next few years, so I’ve included our contact details below.

Here’s the real estate link to the house we bought:
Big, Bold, Could be Beautiful
No normal telephone number as yet. Our house has 3 bedrooms, so there is always room for guests! It is a genuine renovator’s dream though, so it’ll be a few years until we get it to the state we want it in. We move in mid January and hope to settle in quickly while I start work and Kristy gets ready for the big day in April. We don’t know the gender of the baby yet, but will most likely find out next week. Everything is well though, and Kristy always gets a big thumbs up when she goes to the doctor.
So a big Merry Xmas to everyone and Happy New Year!
This is from a page about a university subject at QUT:
Risk assessment statement
There are no out of the ordinary risks associated with this unit other than those usually faced in the gaining of new knowledge (e.g.: identity crises, artistic integrity crises, existential angst, etc).
Careful of thinking too much – you might lose your sense-of-self!
Happy third-decade-and-still-somewhat-sane to Geoff (last month) and Kylie (this month – today in fact). Now we can all go to the over-30s parties together!
The sequel to the Runes of Odin is out in which Calum and Lena write naughty magical combinations with chocolate body paint.
I haven’t actually seen the finished product yet, but expect to in a week or two. It’s available by the end of the month from Angus & Robertson bookstores either online or ordered in store or via the publisher Jacaranda and is only $15.95 – not even $16! Guaranteed bestseller! If none of that works, I could just send you one myself if you give me enough time (and money). I have noticed that it can be quite expensive to ship to Europe with A&R, so Jacaranda or me are the best bets.
Geoff: By the way – I’m the proudest dad today! Leon crapped into a potty all by himself!
From Perry…
Hi all… just a short note to let you all know that baby Aleksandar Robert Judd was born yesterday, 24th September at 4.45am… a bit (2 weeks) earlier than we had expected but that’s ok because he is healthy and cute and we’re really happy.
Lidija just finished her work on Friday. We had a nice relaxing day at the beach on Saturday and even went to the cinema on Saturday night. Her waters broke at midnight and her labour lasted only about 4 and a half hours before he was born! It all happened so quickly… which is good because it looks so damn painful!
Anyway that’s the basic news!
